Are you a caterpillar or a butterfly?
If nothing ever changed there would be no such thing as butterflies – What an exciting yet turbulent time we are living in!
From talking with participants at this year’s Yoga Immersion retreat I found that for some, 2020 offered much needed time out for reflection. Yet for others it brought uncertainty and challenges.
What it certainly did for all of us was to shake the comfortable blanket of perceived predictability we had wrapped around our life situation, both for today and tomorrow.
When your outer world change in ways that you could have never predicted, you may find yourself out of balance as the parameters of your future seem uncertain.
Changes that you cannot control can bring feelings of anxiety and fear. You might find that as the ground beneath you feels unstable, you lack a sense of purpose and direction, but let’s face it a lot of what happens in your life is out of your control, like it or not.
What you can take charge of however is your inner world and the good news is that it’s your inner world that colours the perception of your outer world.
From a spiritual perspective the reason for your souls journey here on beautiful Mother Earth is always the same regardless of what your outer circumstances offers you. We have both an inner and an outer purpose.
The purpose of your inner journey is to come home to your true self. To enter an inner landscape where your inner self guides your outer journey. A place where your deep inner peace is not rocked by the changing weather that life inevitably brings.
In the tradition of Zen this is often described as ‘being the still rock in a raging river’. Sounds like an awesome place to be and pretty simple, yet in practice once your life is storming your inner peace is often vanishes.
When you least expect it life will bring you challenges that is an opportunity for stepping out of your comfort zone to grow. Change offers us an opportunity of letting go of the past and make room for something new, ultimately a new you.
Your inner tranquillity is like anything in your life, it blossoms when you give it time and energy. Yes, it is as easy or hard as that. If you want to learn how to paint water colours you have to put some time and energy into it. If you want to find inner serenity you have to put some time and energy into it!
The timeless traditions of yoga, meditation and mindfulness are tried and tested tools that allow you to access a calm and centred aspect of your consciousness.
These practices understand that you are an energy being. Your thoughts, emotions, body and even your consciousness is all made up of energy. By applying these practices, you are able to raise the vibration of your energy field and open the doorway into greater stability, stillness and get to know your true self.
That’s what all the buzz is about! This is why I love to create spaces for people to immerse themselves into these timeless traditions. That is why these practices have survived for centuries, because they offer you a higher quality of life by allowing you to find stability and serenity in an ever-changing world.
